Title Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting
Summary The Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting has the overall accountability to manage client relationship by ensuring service delivery in keeping with Internal, Service Level Agreements Clients’ and Regulators’ guidelines.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar capacity, preferably in the financial services sector

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical / Professional Responsibilities: 

  • Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls to be aligned to the company’s guidelines
  • Ensures the maintenance and integrity of the General Ledger by reviewing the documentation, validity, and propriety of all accounting transactions that are related to this function, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Procedures Manual. End of Day Process 
  • Ensures that the regulatory reports for the companies within assigned portfolio are prepared within the required deadlines and submitted to the relevant authorities as stipulated by the relevant regulations
  • Prepares and monitors budgets, ensuring that the accounts are managed, within budget; prepare variance reports and make recommendations to re-align
  • Management Reports are accurately prepared, with the required level of detail and analysis and submitted by the 15th day after each month end
  • Ensures that the daily audit of the previous day’s work is completed with the specified timeframe; all anomalies are communicated to the relevant personnel promptly and corrections made
  • Ensures that daily bank reconciliations are completed and cash position communicated to Investment Officer by 9:30 am each day
  • Ensure that the financial statements are accurate and prepared by the Accountants within the required timeframe; these are reviewed and dispatched by 5th working day of the following month
  • Liaise with the external auditors regarding scheduling of the audit; ensuring that all schedules are accurately prepared and working with the audit team to complete the audit within the scheduled timeframe.
  • Attend Trustees’ meeting per invitation
  • Special projects as required

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinates and supervises the activities of the assigned work unit (Portfolio Accounting) 
  • Ensure that team members are properly trained on all systems 
  • Train and develop staff 
  • Quarterly Performance Appraisals are to be completed within 30 days after each calendar quarter
  • Hold sub-unit meetings, at least monthly
  • Verbal and written communication to be clear, concise and timely
  • Cross training to facilitate Job Rotation Other responsibilities:
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral format
  •  Current/updated knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements
  • Ability to navigate spreadsheets and prepare reports
  • Ability to interpret financial and accounting data and perform detailed analyses.
